What spring to your mind when you think of Hong Kong? Shopping paradise? A place with cuisine of all over world?
This year, these are no longer the unique icons of Hong Kong. Instead, we introduce you a new iconic festival -- Steam Rice Roll Festival!
What is Steam Rice Roll Festival?
Steam Rice Roll Festival is a special activity held by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Through this festival, we introduce steam rice roll, a fantastic food in Hong Kong, to the tourists as well as Hong Kong citizens. Also, as Hong Kong is a fast-pace city, people are full of worries and anxieties. Through this event, we hope that people can shake their problems away and burst into laughter within a crazy Steam Rice Roll week.
Steam rice roll, a traditional food found in Chinese restaurants and later became a cheap street food, is very popular in Hong Kong.
No matter adults, teens or even kids, looking at the delicious steamy rice rolls, they can’t wait to eat them up.
What events will be held in the festival?
1. Roll it yourself!People have to roll themselves on a rice sheet as if they are rice roll. The one who finishes rolling and becomes a ‘rice roll man’ first wins.
2. Soak it yourself!
Competitors must soak rice rolls in soy sauce for 1 minute. The one who has the rice roll with most soy sauce soaked (collected in a beaker) wins.
3. Jump it yourself!First, competitors have to coat rice rolls onto the skipping ropes provided. The competitor whose rice rolls ropes hold rice rolls for the longest time wins.
4. Pick it yourself!
The one who can pick the largest number of dried prawns in one minute to the rice roll sheets wins.
5. Ms and Mr. Steam Rice Roll
Guess what? Steam Rice Roll can also be beautiful.
